ACCESSING OUR RESOURCES
MRCT employs more than 80 people dedicated to identifying, protecting and developing MRC science with commercial potential.
Around one third of our staff focus on patenting and licensing, liaising with MRC scientists who have inventions, filing patents and managing these patents through the world’s patent systems. Within this group we have specialists in a number of biological fields and staff expert in partnering and licensing technology. During more than twenty years of operation we have built, and continue to build, a strong network of company contacts in the global biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
In addition to this, MRCT has laboratories at its Mill Hill and Edinburgh sites. Within these facilities, research is carried out to develop exciting early stage biology into projects with significantly more commercial ‘bite’. Our key Drug Discovery initiative is investing almost ten million pounds in taking cutting edge MRC biology into the early stage drug discovery process; building high throughput assays, screening focused libraries and doing the same kind of ‘hit to lead’ chemistry found in the pharmaceutical industry.
