Position within Therapeutics Review Team

MRC Technology is a technology transfer organisation responsible for adding commercial value to cutting edge scientific discoveries through strategic patent protection, creative licensing of intellectual property (IP), partnered research or further scientific development and also runs one of the largest academic drug discovery groups in the UK. MRC Technology’s Centre for Therapeutic Discovery (CTD) has expertise in both small molecule and therapeutic antibody drug discovery and works to develop exciting new drugs for a broad range of unmet medical needs.
The Therapeutic Review Team provides a central resource for MRC Technology, researching and analysing the potential of new and existing biomedical opportunities. The main focus of the team is the critical evaluation of drug discovery projects for CTD. The team performs detailed scientific assessments as well as analysis of commercial drivers and performs an essential role in helping to shape CTD’s drug discovery pipeline.
The Therapeutic Review Team is expanding and looking for someone with a very strong biological research background to join the group. You will be educated to PhD level with evidence of an excellent academic background. You will welcome an intellectual challenge and will be able to quickly understand and critique scientific information. An ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment across a broad range of biomedical fields is essential. Although a background in drug discovery is not necessary, you should have an interest in, and an appreciation of the factors that can influence success in drug discovery. You will be expected to interact credibly with leading experts, scientists and clinicians within academia and the pharmaceutical industry. You will be able to clearly present the strengths and weaknesses of biomedical opportunities and will have excellent communication and report writing skills. Experience of assessing commercial drivers in the biomedical field would be preferred but not necessary. You will be expected to learn quickly to understand MRC Technology’s processes for assessing competitive intelligence and the intellectual property landscape. The position will involve frequent travel within the UK and occasionally abroad.

Technology Transfer Administrator

MRC Technology’s Centre for Therapeutic Discovery (CTD) has expertise in both small molecule and therapeutic antibody drug discovery and works to develop exciting new drugs for a broad range of unmet medical needs.
A maternity cover vacancy has arisen for a Technology Transfer Administrator within the Intellectual Property and Licensing Division (IPL) of MRC Technology. The post provides administrative support for MRC Technology’s work on the protection and commercial exploitation of MRC inventions and collaborations with industry as well as MRC Technology’s own drug discovery facility, the Centre for Therapeutics Discovery.
Reporting into one of the Senior Business Managers the main responsibility will be managing patent formalities for 3/4 Business Managers within IPL. This will include coordinating patent related administration to ensure procedural obligations are met, maintaining accurate electronic records of all patent related documents and correspondence to ensure business continuity, liaising with colleagues in IPL and other divisions in relation to monitoring agreement income and outgoing revenue and reporting on key data.
A wide range of administrative and organisational skills are required with particular emphasis on good oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and experience of using databases. Knowledge of intellectual property, particularly the patenting process, would be an advantage.
